都心から東京湾アクアラインを渡り、約1時間半。木更津から田んぼに囲まれた道を進んでいき鴨川市に入ると、清らかな空気に包まれた、どこか懐かしい里山の風景が広がります。
海の鴨川は、「鴨川シーワールド」などがあり広く知られていますが、近年は山側の鴨川も、移住先や週末の滞在先として少しずつ注目を集めています。
今回訪れたのは、鴨川市で農地運営を行う株式会社苗目（なえめ）さんが手がける、カフェとショップが一体となった「naeme farmers stand」です。苗目さんは、放棄畑を開墾し、ハーブやエディブルフラワー、野菜を育てる農園であるとともに、シェアファームやオーガニック直売所、カフェなど、土地の可能性を広げる多様な取り組みを展開されています。
ご縁があり、現在ハレノヒバスケットの商品を一部、naeme farmers standさんにて展示販売させていただいています。苗目の農場で育ったハーブは、都内の上質なレストランなどにも届けられ、美しいひと皿に香りや彩りを添えています。
また、放棄された農地を再生し、里山の豊かさを次へつないでいく活動にも取り組まれています。
併設のカフェでは、採れたてのハーブや野菜、猪などのジビエを使ったお料理をいただくことができます。ひと皿ごとに、自然の恵みを感じるおいしさが広がります。
印象的だったのは、景色やお料理だけではありません。
お店のスタッフの方をはじめ、この土地に惹かれてやってきた方々との、自然に生まれる会話でした。
お話しさせていただいたオーストラリアご出身のAさんは、今ではすっかりこの土地の暮らしに溶け込み、地域の一員として日々を重ねていらっしゃるようでした。一方、東京から半移住されているご夫婦も、この土地に惹かれ、少しずつ関わりを深めている方でした。
皆さんが口をそろえておっしゃっていたのは、この場所に、不思議なエネルギーを感じたということでした。
田んぼがあり、畑があり、山があり、風がある。季節の匂いや、土の気配がある。
整いすぎていない自然の中に、人が手をかけ、関わり続けている。
その静かな力に、我々は惹かれるのでしょう。
ハレノヒバスケットもまた、自然素材から生まれ、人の手でひとつずつ編み上げられるものです。
土地に根ざすもの。人の手が残るもの。長く大切にしたくなるもの。

Basket & Journey: Hosono, Kamogawa, Chiba
About an hour and a half from central Tokyo, across the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line.
As you leave Kisarazu and drive through roads surrounded by rice fields toward Kamogawa, a nostalgic satoyama landscape begins to unfold, wrapped in clear, fresh air.
Kamogawa is widely known for its seaside attractions, including Kamogawa Sea World. In recent years, however, the mountain side of Kamogawa has also been quietly gaining attention as a place for relocation and weekend stays.
Our destination was naeme farmers stand, a café and shop operated by Naeme Co., Ltd., an agricultural corporation based in Kamogawa.
Naeme is also a farm that cultivates herbs, edible flowers, and vegetables on reclaimed abandoned farmland. They are actively engaged in a wide range of initiatives, including a share farm, an organic farm shop, and a café.
Through a wonderful connection, a selection of Halenohi Basket pieces is currently available for display and sale at naeme farmers stand.
The herbs grown at Naeme’s farm are delivered to fine restaurants in Tokyo, adding fragrance and color to beautifully composed dishes. Naeme is also committed to restoring abandoned farmland and passing on the richness of the satoyama landscape to the next generation.
At the café, guests can enjoy dishes made with freshly harvested herbs and vegetables, as well as wild game such as boar. Each plate is filled with the quiet abundance of nature.
What stayed with us most was not only the scenery or the food, but also the conversations that naturally unfolded with the people drawn to this place.
One person we spoke with, originally from Australia, now seems deeply rooted in the local way of life, living as part of the community. We also met a couple from Tokyo who have begun spending more time here, gradually deepening their relationship with the land.
What they all shared was the same feeling:there is a mysterious energy in this place.
Rice fields, vegetable gardens, mountains, and wind.The scent of the seasons, the presence of the soil.Nature that is not overly polished, but carefully tended by human hands.
Perhaps it is this quiet strength that draws people in.
